About Polish Federation of Therapeutic Communities (PFST)

Welcome to the official information about the Polish Federation of Therapeutic Communities!

ABOUT PFST: PFST was founded in 1997 and is a non-governmental organization that promotes public health, education, prevention, specialized assistance, social work and social reintegration of people affected by addiction. We are headquartered in Gdansk, Poland, and our activities cover the whole country and international activities. PFST cooperates with both national and international organizations with similar goals.

Our Mission: At PFST, we aim to:

Promote and develop new approaches in working with addicts, based on the philosophy and principles of therapeutic communities.
Ensure the quality of services provided in therapeutic interventions based on the therapeutic community model.
To initiate, conduct and disseminate scientific research for the development of therapeutic communities.
Raising public awareness.
To integrate the communities of professionals working with therapeutic communities and support their professional development.
To exchange experience and cooperate with therapeutic programs based on therapeutic community principles in Europe and the world.
To promote forms of work with the therapeutic community method in various institutions, including social welfare centers, educational and penitentiary institutions.

Our Achievements: For more than 20 years of existence, PFST has organized numerous symposia, conferences, seminars and trainings, both at the national and international levels. We publish newsletters presenting the situation of therapeutic communities in Poland and around the world. Our membership includes representatives of many non-governmental organizations, such as the MONAR Association, the Catholic Association “Betania,” the “Familia” Association, and many others.

Global Partnership: PFST is a member of the European Federation of Therapeutic Communities and was a member of the World Federation of Therapeutic Communities. In recognition of our service to addicts, we have established the CREDO Award for “Heart and Dedication to Addicted People,” awarded annually since 2002. Additionally, PFST administers a certification system for addiction therapists.
